analysing front covers

Analysing 2 magazines of my choice.
I firstly chose this magazine because it is completely different to the kind of magazine that I would create. This way I will be able to analyse both magazines in detail as they both have completely different target audiences, age and genders.
This magazine caters for the indie middle class people. NME say that they have a readership of 411000 a month and they say that 73% of that is men that particularly read this magazine. They also think that the average age of people who read this magazine is the age of 25 and classes between ABC1. Their target market is for men aged from 17-30.
I think these estimations are just right because this magazine is defiantly for people who are into indie music and likes to read about gigs as 77% of people have been to a concert in 2007 and ‘My Chemical Romance’ because as NME says 75% of people think that music is an important part of their life. The colours and the writing is just right as they fit together nicely and you can still see all the writing clearly. The other good thing about this magazine is that it is set out to appeal to the attracted audience e.g. the pictures on the side of what’s inside. And the picture on the front is for the targeted audience.
The magazine that I have chosen to analyse is called Vibe. This magazine is aimed more for hip hop & r&b fans. Vibe has over 19million people read their magazine every month. The new Vibe is the premier destination for urban music, entertainment, culture and lifestyle for the average age of 18-34 year olds. I like this magazine because even though the page is really packed with text, it all fits in together really well. The colours of the magazine are well used because it fits in with the colour scheme of using about 3 colours so it doesn’t look odd. I think the colour also helps the text by making it more exiting and something you would want to read where as some magazines have too much text so it makes it look dull and boring to read. The text is also very informal as it is laid back witch gives the R&B vibe to the front cover. This magazine also proves that it’s laid back because of the slang in the text they use like the ‘muah’ and ‘muama’ this shows that this magazine if for the working class and younger generation because of the text and language it has used.  This magazine is appealing to its target audience because on the front is a picture of Little Wayne and that is what the targeted audience is expecting.
